Indonesia has lost an adhesive figure for diversity. Prof. Dr. KH Ahmad Syafii Maarif, Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah for the 1998-2005 period passed away in Yogyakarta on Friday (27/5) at 10.15 WIB.

Rector of the Universitas Negeri Gorontalo Dr. Ir. Eduart Wolok, ST, MT, IPM, also expressed his deep condolences for the passing of one of the nation's intellectuals.

"Today, Indonesia is mourning the loss of one of the nation's intellectuals, a giant who is the guardian of diversity," he said.

Eduart considers that the ideas and thoughts that have been conveyed by Buya Syafii Maarif about diversity will continue to be eternal and become guidelines for various groups.

"In terms of diversity, he is a giant. I am optimistic that Muhammadiyah, as one of the factories that produces Muslim scholars, will be able to give birth to another Buya Syafii who will shine a light on Indonesia's future," he said.
